David’s strengths lie in understanding the different regulatory environments, the key stakeholders and the cross border flow of funds between different regulatory jurisdictions in Africa and globally, and their impact on corporations doing business in Africa.
With twenty years of experience in corporate and investment banking, David acquired specific and expert knowledge of financial markets, risk and audit, derivatives, funding and liquidity.
During his banking career, David worked in a number of roles in South Africa (12 years), London (4 years), and Mozambique (3 years). During this time, he has had direct work experience with more than fifteen countries across Africa.
As a Barclays Africa director for the last six years, David held positions as the Director of Treasury in Mozambique and most recently as Principal of Foreign Exchange Sales for the rest of Africa. During his time in Mozambique, David held various Board positions and presented on risk, revenue, strategy and business economic issues to the Board. David was also responsible for engaging the IMF on various topics relating to the Mozambique financial system.
David regularly presents on “Doing Business in Africa” and has co-presented on banking compliance with the South Africa Reserve Bank.
David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computational & Applied Mathematics and Industrial Psychology. He is a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Energy Risk Professional (ERM) and is a Member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa.
